MillO Dance Projects is a platform for performance and training in Contemporary Dance and Partnering based in Toronto, Ontario. It was founded by Geanderson Mello and Mio Sakamoto in 2020.
Our practice is inspired by aspects of Contact Improvisation. We explore movement in relationship to others through awareness, physical touch, and weight sharing. Playing with gravity and momentum is another important factor in our work. We believe that it is by empowering our vulnerabilities and facing our weaknesses, that our true strengths are revealed. We strive to share our practice through performances and workshops. We are committed to keep evolving our skills and creativity to refine the quality of performances and workshops we deliver.
The workshops we provide, begin by gently connecting with everyone in the room through guided improvisation using fluid movements and brushing. We invite dancers to find the ways to communicate and connect using physical movement generated from the body as a whole. Once sharing and listening of energy and space is established, we move into movement flow and weight sharing. We use short choreographic phrases to develop skills to be constantly aware and prepared. We encourage dancers to change partners throughout the class in order to learn to adapt and find boundless kinds of connections with different individuals.
We believe in the art of getting to know each other past the physical point through partnering. Our goal is to create a world where dance becomes a universal language.
